International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA)

The International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) is a cooperative agreement among U.S. states and Canadian provinces to simplify the reporting of fuel use by motor carriers that operate in multiple jurisdictions. Under IFTA, carriers file a single quarterly fuel tax report with their base jurisdiction, which then distributes the taxes owed to the appropriate jurisdictions.
